Transforming Lives Across Senegal Since 2005

A Connecticut-based nonprofit bringing education, health, and opportunity to the Tambacounda region.

About Us

American Friends of Le Korsa began with a simple conviction: that communities thrive when given the right tools. Founded in 2005 and registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, AFLK has spent two decades building schools, digging wells, planting trees, and funding healthcare for women and families in Senegal's Tambacounda region, one of the country's most underserved areas.

What sets AFLK apart is its depth of commitment. The organization is a registered NGO in Senegal itself, with affiliates in France and accreditation in the UK and Ireland. That international scaffolding means donations move efficiently, programs are held to rigorous standards, and local partners in Dakar and Tambacounda have real institutional backing.

Based out of Bethany, CT, AFLK operates with the focus of a small organization and the reach of an international one. Every program, whether a girls' dormitory, a free women's clinic, or an artists' residency, is designed to create lasting structural change rather than short-term relief.

What We Offer

AFLK's work spans four interconnected areas, each chosen because communities in Tambacounda identified them as critical.

Education sits at the core: AFLK has built schools and operates a girls' dormitory and educational campus, giving young women in rural Senegal a safe place to learn. On the land and environment side, the organization digs wells, supports community farming, and leads tree-planting initiatives that protect fragile ecosystems. The health program includes a free women's healthcare clinic, direct support for hospital equipment and medicines, and patient subsidies that make care accessible regardless of income.

Rounding out the work is a commitment to art and culture: an artists' residency and cultural center give Senegalese creators a platform, while arts education programs ensure that cultural identity is woven into community development, not treated as an afterthought.
